Preview Roundups
October 01, 2017
Houston at Boston 3:05 PM ET
It took a little longer than planned, but the Boston Red Sox clinched the American League East with one day to spare in the regular season. The Houston Astros, who assured themselves of the No. 2 seed in the AL playoffs with a loss to the Red Sox on Saturday, will visit Boston in Sunday's regular-season finale before the two teams meet again next week in the AL Division Series.
Oakland at Texas 3:05 PM ET
The Texas Rangers attempt to end the season with a three-game winning streak as they host the Oakland Athletics on Sunday in their 2017 finale. Texas fell out of contention for a wild-card spot thanks to a seven-game slide but have posted back-to-back victories over Oakland, including Saturday's 8-4 triumph.
Pittsburgh at Washington 3:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals hope to get through the final game of the regular season without another injury and match their franchise record for wins when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. Washington gave up four runs in the ninth inning for a 4-1 loss on Saturday to remain one victory behind the 2012 team (98) and, more importantly, National League Cy Young Award candidate Max Scherzer left the game with a right hamstring cramp.
San Diego at San Francisco 3:05 PM ET
One day after San Francisco Giants veteran Matt Cain bid a fond farewell to the game, his teammates are set to conclude one of the most disappointing seasons in franchise history. The Giants have lost 98 games heading into Sunday’s season finale against the visiting San Diego Padres, who have won 12 of the first 18 meetings between the teams this year.
Toronto at NY Yankees 3:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees play their final tune-up before Tuesday's wild-card game when they wrap up the regular season against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. With wins in 16 of their last 21 games, the Yankees kept the heat on Boston in the American League East before the Red Sox finally clinched Saturday.
NY Mets at Philadelphia 3:05 PM ET
The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies are facing offseasons certain to be filled with change, including new hires at manager. Before they begin in earnest to build toward 2018, the National League East rivals finish their regular seasons with one more contest in Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon.
Seattle at LA Angels 3:07 PM ET
The Seattle Mariners look to wrap up the season with a second straight series win when they visit the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday for the rubber match of their three-game set. Seattle, which began its season-ending road trip by taking two of three in Oakland, used a five-run eighth inning to post a 6-4 triumph on Saturday and even the series.
Atlanta at Miami 3:10 PM ET
Giancarlo Stanton enters the final game of the season Sunday looking for his 60th homer as the Miami Marlins host the Atlanta Braves, one day after one of his teammates reached a pair of milestones in a 10-2 victory. Second baseman Dee Gordon swiped a pair of bases, giving him 60 on the year and the major-league lead entering the final day of the campaign, and had three hits to reach 200 for the second time in three seasons.
Baltimore at Tampa Bay 3:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays hope to finish the season with four straight wins as they go for a three-game sweep of the slumping Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. The Rays routed the Orioles in the opener before holding on for a 4-3 victory on Saturday as closer Alex Colome pushed his major league-leading total to 47 saves, leaving him one shy of matching the franchise record set in 2012 by Fernando Rodney.
Detroit at Minnesota 3:10 PM ET
With their spot at the bottom of the American League Central secured and the Minnesota Twins locked into the second AL wild card, the Detroit Tigers are trying to enjoy themselves over the final weekend of the regular season. The Tigers will try to say goodbye to manager Brad Ausmus with a win when they visit the Twins for the regular-season finale on Sunday.
LA Dodgers at Colorado 3:10 PM ET
Even though the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Colorado Rockies on Saturday to win the season series between the National League West rivals, both teams pretty much got exactly what they wanted out of the day. The Dodgers and Rockies meet for the final time in the regular season Sunday in Colorado in what could be a precursor for the NL Division Series next weekend.
Chi. White Sox at Cleveland 3:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians knew they had the No. 1 spot in the American League locked up before the game started on Saturday, and one more contest remains before they get around to the business of working toward a return trip to the World Series. The Indians will close out the regular season by hosting the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.
Arizona at Kansas City 3:15 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks' spot in the postseason - and specifically as the wild-card leader in the National League - has been secure for a  while, but they can't be overly pleased with the way the regular season is ending. The Diamondbacks will attempt to avoid yet another one-run loss and a sweep Sunday when they finish their three-game interleague series against the host Kansas City Royals.
Milwaukee at St. Louis 3:15 PM ET
After being eliminated from the race for the National League’s second wild-card berth with Saturday’s loss, the Milwaukee Brewers figure to be a quiet crew when they face the host St. Louis Cardinals in Sunday’s season finale. The Brewers entered Saturday’s play two games back of Colorado but saw their postseason hopes end when the Cardinals scored three times in the eighth inning and held on for a 7-6 victory.
Cincinnati at Chi. Cubs 3:20 PM ET

The National League Central champion Chicago Cubs get their final tune-up for the playoffs when they wrap up the regular season against the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. The Cubs have won 30 of their last 40 meetings with the Reds, including 12 of 18 this year.
